Frequently Asked Questions

How much can I save with a Solar Power Pod?The Solar Power Pod will save you money. Every time you plug into the free clean energy that it provides and not into a wall socket you will be saving money and reducing your Co2 emissions. It’s very difficult to pinpoint exactly how much you will save as there are so many variables to consider, and every home and every person’s power needs are different, but using a Solar Power Pod every day will save you money and in time it quickly adds up to a significant saving.
-
Will my household emissions reduce to help the climate crisis?Absolutely yes. When using the Solar Power Pod to generate a portion of your domestic electricity instead of a mainstream energy company which uses fossil fuels to generate the electricity that they supply to the National Grid, you will be reducing the overall amount of fossil fuels burnt. You will be having a direct impact on reducing your household Co2 emissions which could amount to around 2 tons per year!
-
Do I need any other plugs, leads or adapters? The Solar Power Pod will arrive at your door in two boxes, one large and one small as the battery is shipped separately. Simply open the base box, stick the velcro pads on the feet of the battery and seat it on the velcro mat on the floor of the base box. This will keep it secure if you should move the Pod. Then plug the mains lead into the battery and close and secure the lid. Then just open the solar panels and you’re generating your own clean free power.

How powerful is the Solar Power Pod?The Solar Power Pod is equipped with two powerful solar panels which can provide a power input of up to 400 watts to the rechargeable battery. The battery itself has a capacity of 1,440w/h and a discharge capability of up to 1,800 watts, which can be boosted to 2,700 watts for higher power appliances such as a kettle or a toaster. This power capability is sufficient to handle most of the demands that an average domestic home will need but do check the wattage of whichever appliance you are powering to ensure it falls within the output of the battery. The appliances that you can power with a Solar Power Pod are the same as if you were to plug into a wall socket at home. It can simultaneously power things such as a home office, television, charge devices and computers, vacuum cleaning the home, a kettle, toaster, microwave oven, hairdryer, lawnmower, pressure washer or a small heater, as long as they do not exceed 1,800 watts total in power or 2,700 watts when boosted. The Solar Power Pod can also be used to recharge e-bikes, e-scooters, electric motorbikes and even small electric cars, although you should consult the manufacturer for specific guidance before attempting this as a different charging cable may be required.
-
What’s the lifespan of the Solar Power Pod?The Lithium Ion battery is capable of depleting and recharging approximately 3-3,500 times, so should give a lifespan approaching 10 years, whereas the solar panels have an operational lifespan of 25+ years.
-
Does the Solar Power Pod require any maintenance? No, just ensure that the solar panels are clean and dust free for maximum light conversion. Use a clean damp cloth to wipe them over each morning.
-
When can I expect the Solar Power Pod to have paid for itself? It entirely depends on how determined you are to make a difference. You can make an enormous difference to the environment and to your energy bills by using the Solar Power Pod every day to cook all of your meals in a microwave oven, boil the kettle, using your toaster, powering your television and devices or hoovering your home, but you have to make the conscious decision to do these things. If you ensure that you power as many things as possible whenever possible and really take advantage of the free clean power then you could recoup the purchase price early in it’s lifespan, which will leave you many years of free clean power, ensuring that you play a significant role in the fight against climate change. How many domestic appliances can you think of that will continue to save you money years after having paid for themselves?
-
Why should I buy a Solar Power Pod instead of traditional solar panels on my roof? When having solar panels installed on your roof there are different costs to consider, like the cost of the solar panels, the battery storage system, any structural support changes that may be required to the roof, and the installation cost itself. By the end of the process it’s likely that you will have spent many thousands of pounds, and can you believe that the average time for a roof mounted solar array to pay for itself is now 15.66 years, so unless you can guarantee that you will remain living in the property for at least this amount of time you are literally gifting that money to the next person to buy the house. In addition to this you should consider that not everyone likes the look of solar panels on the roof of their house, and if you should try to sell it can actually be detrimental to the process. There is also the planning permission hurdle to navigate where your installation could be blocked if anyone objects. The Solar Power Pod is an affordable self-contained personal power station that can move when you move from house to house. It sits discreetly in your garden silently generating clean electricity day after day and requires no installation and minimal maintenance.
-
Does the Solar Power Pod have an advantage over roof mounted solar panels?Yes it does, it has mobility. Roof mounted solar panels are fixed facing one point in the sky so they only maximise their absorption of the Sun’s rays when it’s directly ahead, but as the Solar Power Pod is mounted on wheels you can manoeuvre it around your garden from sunrise to sunset, directly facing the Sun for the whole day. Also, not every house has a suitable South facing roof slope, so roof mounted solar panels simply will not be financially viable for a lot of homes, whereas the Solar Power Pod can take full advantage of the available daylight in most situations.
-
Do you ship internationally? At present we only ship to UK locations, although we hope to expand internationally soon.
-
Do you provide a warranty?Yes, both the battery and solar panels are covered by a 5 year manufacturers warranty, the remaining components will be covered by our own 12 month warranty which covers manufacturers defects only.
